Cialis (tadalafil) is a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It works by enhancing the effects of one of the chemicals the body normally releases into the penis during sexual arousal.
Like most medications, Cialis can interact with other drugs you take. For example, nitrates and certain drugs called poppers can decrease how well Cialis works. Also, a type of blood pressure medicine called a guanylate cyclase stimulator (GC) can cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly to an unsafe level when taken with Cialis.
What is Cialis?
Cialis is a prescription drug that’s used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by enhancing your body’s natural arousal response to give you harder erections. It’s the brand name for tadalafil, which is part of a group of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors.
Tadalafil takes about 30 minutes to work. You can take it as needed or every day, depending on your needs and healthcare provider’s advice.
Taking it daily can make your dose last longer, which is why some people like to do so. But you should never take it with nitrate medicines that treat chest pain (angina).
Nitrates are found in some medications for chest pain and in some recreational drugs called “poppers.” When you combine Cialis with nitrates, your blood pressure may lower to an unsafe level. This could lead to fainting or even death in some men.
How does Cialis work?
Cialis belongs to a group of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors, which include sildenafil (Viagra; see Important Safety Information) and vardenafil (Levitra). These drugs help increase blood flow to your penis and stimulate your body’s natural arousal response.
They also block the enzyme PDE5, which enhances the effects of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide works by relaxing blood vessels and allowing your penis to become more enlarged.
This increases blood flow to your erection, giving you a harder erection that lasts longer than other PDE5 inhibitors.
The drug is available in 5mg, 10mg and 20mg tablets, which are taken once daily or as needed. Taking the medication as needed means it stays in your body longer and helps you maintain a hard erection for up to a day and a half after your dose.
Dosage
Cialis comes in a low-dose version that can be taken daily. You take a tablet as needed before sexual activity (see the “How to use Cialis” section above for more information).
If you take Cialis each day for ED or BPH, it will keep working in your body all day long. This can help you have erections for longer.
Taking 시알리스 each day also makes it easier to remember to take your medicine at the right time. If you miss a dose, you can take it as soon as you remember.
The recommended dosage of Cialis for ED or BPH is 2.5 mg to 20 mg a day or as needed. Dosages higher than 20 mg haven’t been studied, and they may cause serious side effects.
In clinical trials, people who took either 2.5 mg or 5 mg of Cialis or a placebo everyday had their IIEF scores improve by 6.1 to 9.7 points. That means their ED symptoms improved while they were taking the drug.
Side effects
Cialis is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men and to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate, called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It comes in tablet form and can be taken as needed before sexual activity or once daily.
It is in a class of medications called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. These work by helping the body get an erection after sexual stimulation.
Aside from the most common side effects, some uncommon ones can occur with Cialis, including chest pain and ringing in the ears. Some of these may be serious and should be reported immediately.
Cialis can also cause a range of digestive side effects, including indigestion and heartburn. It can also affect your lower esophageal sphincter, which is the area of the body that controls the flow of food into your stomach.
